Jennifer Perryman
Jennifer’s distinctive musical approach has been described simply as soulful. Her music is a powerful blend of seriousness and whimsy, embracing modern musical elements while at the same time paying homage to the nostalgic. This native-born Texan, gifted with an angelic voice, is also a skillful pianist. She can deliver her song’s message with reserved elegance and in the next instant slam it down the listener’s proverbial “throat” with a ferocity that is impossible to ignore. This versatile musician’s talent not only lies in performance, but in writing, arranging, and production. These talents, showcased in her first full-length CD, merges elements of pop, jazz, and R&B to form a unique and soul-wrenching style.
Jennifer is classically trained, studying piano for 13 years and voice for four. She received her degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas in 1994. During her time in college, Jennifer sang soprano in the Dallas Symphony Chorus (performing at the Morton H. Meyerson). She worked as vocalist with Robert Lee Kolb and The Local Heroes; was a member and vocalist with the University of North Texas Jazz Singers; a featured vocalist with the Frank Heye Project; and a guest performer with the Unified Jazz Ensemble (a jazz quintet funded by the National Endowment for the Arts). She performed with the Cavalcade of Stars (local impersonation and show band) and as vocalist for the band Tin Man (a local group which recorded two CDs and received local air time on a rock station). All of these experiences contributed to the development of the musical style that is uniquely Jennifer.
After college, Jennifer spent a year as a featured entertainer aboard the SS Independence (American Hawaii Cruises). Upon returning to Dallas in 1996, she continued to expand her musical horizons by performing as vocalist with different local bands including Frontline, The Groove Poets and Icehouse, as well as appearances on local TV programs such as Good Morning Texas. In 1999, Jennifer moved to Los Angeles where she has spent the last year recording her current CD. Jennifer currently performs live at various clubs in the Dallas area.
